Cold Lake is located in northeastern Alberta, about 300 km (180 miles) northeast of Edmonton, near the Alberta-Saskatchewan provincial border. Cold Lake is the transition zone from the Aspen Parkland region to the Boreal mixed wood forest. Kinosoo Beach is a favorite destination during the hot summer months of June, July and August. The Iron Horse Trail is situated on a former railway line and has its eastern-most terminus in Cold Lake. Cold Lake offers many activities, such as golfing, horseback riding, sailing, boating, fishing, or in the winter, downhill or cross-country skiing. Events include the annual Community Fish Fry, Aqua Days and the Maple Flag which takes place over six weeks at 4 Wing, the Canadian Forces Base in Cold Lake, and allows locals and visitors to observe sophisticated military aircraft.
